In order to maintain high levels of service and increase opportunities for revenue in an environment of shrinking margins, American Honda created the Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) training program for their dealers across the country. We designed the first presentation (EXCELL) in 2003. Due to the success, FreshForm was brought in on multiple occasions to create additional rich-media presentations, the most recent being a traveling interactive workshop.

Challenge.

Honda challenged us to communicate the message, strategy and energy of the EXCELL initiative consistently to every Honda dealer in America by educating key management and identifying areas for improvement by showcasing successful peers. Each dealership was tasked to brainstorm ideas and develop an action plan with achievable and measurable results. We needed to collect the data and allow for the dealership to track their efforts and adjust the action plan online to keep it actionable.

Solution.

We created “REBEL,” a concept that strongly resonated with our client and their dealers. Using video, we showcased six of the top dealerships in the country--the rebels of the industry—and associated their attitudes and skills with famous rebels like James Dean, Mario Andretti, and the founder of the company, Soichiro Honda.

The focal point of the training was a six-hour presentation created in Flash, utilizing video, animation, text and voiceover. Each presentation was given to key managers from 8-10 dealerships. Periodic intermissions allowed the managers to discuss ideas and fill out a digital action plan on a supplied laptop. We pre-installed 72 laptops and saved the collected data to a central database where Honda management could later analyze the responses.

We produced all aspects of the presentation and digital action plan. From designing and building the Flash presentation to art directing the video production, training the trainers, coordinating copywriters and voice over talent, procuring laptops, servers, wireless routers, custom travel cases, and building the custom web application–we handled it all.

Result.

After the presentations, we collected digital action plans and all associated data for nearly 700 Honda dealerships in 80 cities—useful information in an accessible format. After the first round of presentations, the program’s success led to continuing the tour to “rebels” in another 30 cities.
